Axon Community Request Frequently Asked Questions

In May 2024 ACT Policing implemented Axon Community Request, a technology product that allows the community to easily upload evidence such as photos or videos to a secure location. Axon Community Request provides ACT Policing with the ability to quickly and easily obtain digital evidence from witnesses.

If you have reported a matter to ACT Policing where you have digital evidence of the reported offence you may receive an invitation from Axon either to your email or mobile phone, asking you to submit that media evidence.

ACT Policing will never send unsolicited emails or text messages to you. You should only be receiving an email or text if you have reported something or had an interaction with a police officer.

Axon Community Request is a secure digital evidence solution provided by Axon Evidence.com, a cloud-based service where your video evidence and images will be securely stored on behalf of ACT Policing. Axon Evidence.com is already used by ACT Policing to securely store police Body Worn Camera footage and community reports of dangerous driving behaviour.

Axon Community Request invitation links received by SMS or email are valid for 10 days after which the link will expire.

No. The invitation link is valid as one-time-use only by the person sent the invitation by ACT Policing.

No, the device you use to record the offence will not be taken from you.

It will be your responsibility to ensure that the original footage is saved in its original format. This could be for example on the internal memory of the device or perhaps on an external storage medium such as an SD card. It can also be copied to a laptop or other device, in its original format.

No. The Police do not replace memory cards or devices with like items in any circumstances.

Please remove the footage from social media immediately. Your footage should not be in the public domain as this may adversely affect any subsequent proceedings. Please report the matter directly to ACT Policing to start the process with us.

Ideally the date and time should be correct. The video footage is used to support your written witness testimony. You must account for any discrepancies in date/time within your witness evidence presented to us. Your witness statement must clearly state what time/date the incident occurred.

The evidence which you provide will be reviewed by Police to firstly establish if an offence has been committed and to identify the specific offence. Each case will be considered on its own merits.

The types of offences ACT Policing deals with generally have a 12- month time limit for prosecution. However, in the interest of justice and human rights, we generally will not proceed with a matter unless the footage is sent to us in a timely manner after the incident – preferably within 14 days.

The footage which you submit will be stored securely on a cloud server.

All material associated with an offence or prosecution will be retained in line with Police and government legislated retention policies.

Upon upload, you grant the law enforcement agency to whom the information is submitted a licence to use, copy, modify, publish and communicate the submitted information for law enforcement purposes including sharing with judicial and other law enforcement agencies.
